A non uniform day at QEHS on June 17th has raised £940 for the fund. Teachers say the response has been amazing with more money being donated than usual. Thank you to all who participated

was revealed at a special show on June 15th.

Everyone who knew Emma was aware

of her affinity to the studio as place where she

brought so much joy to so many people with

her performances.

Seven intrepid runners will be competing in the Great North Run on September 18th in a bid to raise £3,500 for the Fund. Donning tutu’s, big specs and bright red lipstick, ‘Team Emma’ are out to get noticed.

The team includes Emma’s uncle, aunty, cousins, friends and a former teacher who all want to do their bit to remember Emma and establish the fund in her name.

Initial Target Reached!

Thanks to everyone who has supported the fund today we are delighted to announce that the fund has hit it’s initial target of £25,000.  This means the fund will become a permanent endowment with the Community Foundation.

The next stage is to keep building the fund to enable more grants to be made in Emma’s name for ever.

Walkers brave the elements and raise over £2k!

Well done to the Brilliant walkers from Youth Dance Tynedale who battled through some of the worst weather for July in living memory to walk 40k along Hadrians Wall.

The team lead by Sarah Morgan have so far raised over £2,000!

Singing Babies raises £356.63
The sun shone and the babies came, bringing their mums, dads and grandparents. They watched the babies fascinated by music from actual musical instruments.

Hearing them chuckle when they were swooshed into the air and cuddled back down to the songs cheered the spectators no end.

Local Musician Creates Special Musical Tribute
Musician Sam Dunkley has written and recorded a special track called the Dancer In The Sky’ with all the proceeds from downloads going to the fund.

Sam said, ‘I was lucky enough to meet Emma and was very upset to hear what had happened. I wanted to help the fund in some way but had no money. I came up with the idea of writing a song’

Afternoon of Arts, Music, Food and Dance
Kristin Clawson is organising a special fundraising afternoon at the Queen Elizabeth High School on Saturday September 17th from featuring a Performing Arts Showcase, Live Music and tasty food.

4pm-6pm performing arts showcase

Boys Battle Ben Nevis

David Ryall & Conor Buchanan took time out of their summer holidays to climb the tallest mountain in Britain - Ben Nevis.

They’ve raised almost £400 with their efforts.

David said, ‘Emma was a good friend and like most people who knew her we wanted to do something for the fund.

Fund hits £50,000!

The Emma Newton Fund has hit £50,000 and it’s all thanks to the generosity of thousands of people who have made donations both large and small.

The Fund, which is managed by The Community Foundation, has been established to support young people in the Performing Arts. 

When Emma’s Dad, Robbie Newton, heard the news today he said, ‘It’s amazing. We are so humbled by the number of people who have shown their support. The Fund really will be a lasting legacy for Emma.’

Dozens of events have been organised and hundreds of individual donations have been made. The Bold & Bright Zumba which took place in September raised almost £10,000 and Team Emma who were featured on the BBC’s Great North Run coverage raised a further £6,000.  Local businesses have felt moved to help but none more so than Hexham’s Jo Anderson Designer Hair who have donated several thousand pounds both personally and through their salon.

Friends of Emma’s from dance, drama and school lead the way by organising shows, cake stalls, raffles, a sponsored walk along Hadrian’s Wall and countless collections.

Queen’s Brian May gave his support with a personal donation and support for future events. And Sunderland Empire kindly organised a collection during their recent We Will Rock You show.

Rob Williamson of the Community Foundation said, ‘It is such fantastic news that the Emma Newton Fund has reached £50,000 in such a short time. It is a wonderful testimony to Emma that, through the Fund, her passion for the Arts will live on for generations to come and that many young people will benefit from the generosity of local people.’

Pals of Emma John Nicholson & Ross Keady sang had anything but a silent

night after spending several hours Carol Sining in Corbridge.

Over £100 was raised

Earlier this year Stephen Turnbull set himself a running challenge of 100km of races for The Emma Newton Fund.

On Saturday 5th November 2011 he ran a 15km race in Helvellyn in the Lake District to complete the challenge.

The 100km challenge had been set The Emma Newton Fund and as a way to ensure every penny raised goes direct to the fund.

All the entry money, expenses getting to and from, t shirts etc were paid out of his own pocket, so everything donated is a boost to the fund.

Tynedale Rugby Club donate £1,465!

The amazing players, family and friends of Tynedale Rugby Football Club have a made a huge donation to the fund.  A collection was taken in November at the match against Cinderford which raised £464.91 and the club’s Management Committee added a further £1,000!

Bag Pack Makes £830!

A bag pack organised by friends of

in just six hours. Generous Waitrose

shoppers gave donations as volunteers

carefully packed bags and gave

some Christmas cheer.

In total £830.74 was raised making

the event an amazing success.

The staff at Vattenfall’s office in Hexham have raised £975.51 by holding a silent auction.  Staff chose The Emma Newton Fund as they were touched by Emma’s story and wanted to do something to show their support.

In March thousands of people came to visit The Spectacle an exhibition of famous glasses each with a story to tell.  Due to the success of the event at the Queens Hall, Hexham organisers have decided

to stage the exhibition one more time before

auctioning the famous frames.

They are currently looking for a suitable City Centre location and hope to announce a new event very soon.

Spectacular event to get even bigger

On June 23rd Andrew Turnbull will be running his first 'Ultra Marathon'.

THE WALL is a gruelling 69 miles from Carlisle to Newcastle along Hadrian's Wall and down the Tyne Valley. That's the equivalent of TWO London Marathons, a Great North Run and an extra 3.5 miles…. In one day!

He will be raising money for The Emma Newton Fund. Visit his fundraising page and give him some support.

Josie Carries The Torch

Josie Hart, was the first person to carry the torch through the streets of Hexham.  And now you can have a slice of the magic moment.

Josie works at Quattro Mori Restaurant in Hexham, where owner Sergio Addis has created a special pizza the ‘2012 Flame’.  £2 from every sale will go directly to Emma’s fund.

Sergio said, “When Josie suggested the idea we were delighted to help. We hope the 2012 flame pizza proves popular with our customers and benefits such an inspiring cause.”

Patrons will also have the chance to be photographed holding the torch, with a discretionary donation being suggested for the Fund.

Amazing Swim!

Jess Anderson was supposed to do participate in the Great North Swim session but it was cancelled due to poor weather. Undeterred Jess took part in the Great Manchester Swim which was a 1 mile swim through the canals of Manchester.

She raised £305 and hopes to receive a further £200 from Kellogg's.
